BOC will provide gases and expertise to leading edge manufacturing technology projects at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry.
Industrial gases and engineering company BOC has become the latest member of the flagship Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry. The MTC is a key part of the UK Government’s drive to make the UK the home of advanced manufacturing technologies. It forms part of the first of a series of Technology Innovation Centres or ‘Catapult’ centres, developing new processes and products for 21st century engineering projects.
The agreement allows BOC, a Member of The Linde Group, to become a partner in these development projects with other members of the centre such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus, The National Physical Laboratory and The Welding Institute. As the leading supplier of industrial gases and related equipment in the UK, BOC is ideally placed to provide expertise and specific gas technologies to support this research.
Speaking at the formal signing ceremony in Coventry, the Head of BOC’s Merchant and Packaged Gas (MPG) business, Nathan Palmer, said: “The Manufacturing Technology Centre is all about using technology to meet the challenges of engineering and industry in the 21st century. BOC as a business has a depth of expertise second to none in the UK – and is part of a leading global gases and engineering group. We expect to make a full contribution to the work of the MTC in creating advanced engineering technologies.”
Clive Hickman, CEO of the Manufacturing Technology Centre, commented: “The Manufacturing Technology Centre was set up to bring together the leaders in manufacturing innovation. We aim to provide the setting where the latest research can be translated into mainstream manufacturing technologies. That is why we are delighted to welcome BOC as a member of the Centre, bringing to our mix of resources their undisputed expertise in industrial gases technologies.”
